Registrants in Alberta Data

July 14, 2022

Data is essential when it comes to decision-making for the health-care system; and the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) maintains a register with the statistics on who is eligible to practice as registered nurses (RNs), nurse practitioners (NPs), certified graduate nurses (CGNs), graduate nurses (GNs) and graduate nurse practitioners (GNPs) in Alberta.

Every year the CRNA sends defined unidentifiable data from the register to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). This data is used to assess the Canadian health system and is combined with data from other health-care partners, including the nursing regulators.

What We Publish

The CRNA publishes an annual report that includes statistics on registrants and complaints. This data is not representative of nurses currently working in Alberta, just how many have registration with the CRNA. Some may be on leave, working in a different position or practising in another jurisdiction.

Demographics and Employment Statistics

Increasing the transparency on the demographics and the employment of registrants in Alberta will assist our health-care partners by providing them with the data to make informed decisions. This data selection represents the register from Oct. 1, 2020, to Sept. 30, 2021, and was sent to CIHI.

Data dated Sept. 30, 2021.
