As a collaborator in Alberta's health care ecosystem, the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) is committed to supporting employers in fostering a professional, competent and ethical nursing workforce through Right-touch relational regulation.
All registrants of the CRNA are required to renew their permits on an annual basis and employers have a responsibility to ensure that their employees have active practice permits.
Renewal Dates
Renewal will open on Aug. 1, 2025, and close on Sept. 30, 2025. Permits that are successfully renewed during this time will be valid for the upcoming practice year, which runs from Oct. 1, 2025, to Sept. 30, 2026. Renewal dates, along with other key dates throughout the practice year, are noted on our website (click on the button below to view the page).
The CRNA is also hosting a webinar dedicated to the topic of renewal on June 25, 2025 as part of our Applicant Navigation Webinar Series. Registration details will be shared on our website closer to the webinar date.
Permit Checks
Individuals who do not complete their renewal application by Sept. 30 will not be entitled to practise on Oct. 1. Employers can easily verify the permit statuses of their employees at any time using the CRNA’s Employer Lookup.
Important note: when verifying employee permit information, please ensure you are using the approved CRNA application above. If using third-party applications or tools, the CRNA cannot verify the integrity of the information provided.
Permit Fee Information
The CRNA’s Council will approve permit fees for the 2025-2026 practice year in June. The information will be sent to registrants, and the information will be posted on the Funding and Fees page of our website no later than June 20, 2025.
The CRNA is hosting two separate webinars in April to support applicants, registrants and health care partners in navigating our processes and understanding our role as a regulator.
