Senior Manager, Regulation & Standards
At the CRNA, we are committed to regulatory excellence and safeguarding the public interest. As part of this commitment, we are seeking a Senior Manager, Regulation & Standards to lead the development and implementation of nursing standards, provide oversight of regulatory committees, and build strong partnerships with post-secondary institutions and regulatory bodies.
This position plays a vital role in shaping the expectations for registered nurse (RN) and nurse practitioner (NP) practice in Alberta. Reporting to the Director, Governance, Regulation & Standards, the Senior Manager will lead cross-functional teams and guide decision making that reflects the evolving needs of the profession and public interest in safe, ethical and competent nursing care.
What You Will Do
Regulatory Committee and Program Oversight
- Lead and coordinate the work of regulatory committees including hearing tribunals and the complaints review committee.
- Develop committee processes, provide guidance to chairs and members, and ensure compliance with legislation and internal policy.
- Monitor committee effectiveness and evaluation metrics to ensure timely, informed decisions.
Standards Development and Implementation
- Lead the development, review and implementation of nursing standards across all domains of practice.
- Coordinate consultation with internal and external partners, including nurses, educators, employers and the public.
- Align standards with national and provincial frameworks and ensure they reflect current, evidence-informed practices.
- Create and manage implementation resources, communication tools and adoption strategies.
Program Approval and Post-Secondary Engagement
- Oversee evaluation and approval of RN and NP entry-to-practice education programs.
- Build and sustain collaborative relationships with Alberta post-secondary institutions.
- Develop program evaluation frameworks addressing curriculum, clinical placements, faculty qualifications and student outcomes.
- Facilitate dialogue and consultation with academic institutions and support alignment with accreditation and regulatory requirements.
Policy and Regulatory Framework Development
- Interpret legislation and regulatory frameworks impacting RN and NP practice, providing expert guidance to internal teams and external partners.
- Lead policy development initiatives that support sound regulatory decision making and public protection.
- Promote innovation and continuous improvement within the team while managing competing priorities.
- Apply diversity, equity, inclusion and cultural safety principles across all regulatory activities.
What You Possess
Education:
Master’s degree in nursing, health policy, public administration or a related field.
Experience:
10-15 years of senior-level leadership experience in a regulatory, health care or post-secondary environment. Proven experience in policy development, regulatory interpretation and managing regulatory committees.
Registered nurse in good standing (an asset).

- Regulatory and Legislative Expertise: Deep understanding of the regulatory environment for RNs and NPs, including policy and legislation interpretation.
- Standards Development: Strong planning, prioritization and documentation skills.
- Program Evaluation: Strong background in education program approval, evaluation frameworks and relationship management with post-secondary institutions.
- Strategic Leadership: Able to lead through complexity with strategic thinking, political acumen and systems perspective.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communicator with a collaborative, inclusive leadership style that builds trust and accountability.
- Team Development and Coaching: Committed to staff development, coaching and fostering high performance within teams.
- Adaptability and Judgment: Navigates ambiguity, balances competing priorities and exercises sound judgment in complex decision-making environments.
