The evidence (documents) to demonstrate you meet a requirement varies based on your application type. You will provide information or evidence for each requirement in your application.
Below you will find detailed information about all requirements and expanded information on evidence types you can use in Alberta.
The CRNA is responsible for approving the education programs located in Alberta that lead to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse or nurse practitioner and re-entry to practice as a registered nurse.
Bridging programs are designed to assist individuals in filling application gaps. You may have the option to use a bridging program towards your registered nurse application to meet the currency of practice or post-secondary requirements.
Registered nurses, certified graduate nurses and nurse practitioners who hold an active practice permit must annually complete the CCP requirements outlined in the Registered Nurses Profession Regulation.
All applicants are required to complete a criminal record check. If you do not reside in Canada, an alternate method of completing this step is required.
Whether you’re applying for initial registration, renewing your permit or returning to practice, you must meet the currency of practice requirement.
You must demonstrate proficiency in speaking, writing, listening and reading English to a level sufficient to engage in safe, competent and ethical nursing care.

All applicants are required to demonstrate fitness to practise to be registered with the CRNA.
All applicants are required to demonstrate good character and reputation to be registered with the CRNA.
You must be able to provide the College with an acceptable form of government-issued identification.
You must meet the post-secondary education requirement to join a register in Alberta. The evidence you will use to satisfy the requirement is different depending on your application type. You only need to provide evidence during your first application.
One of the accepted forms of evidence is verification of equivalent education. Follow these steps if this applies to you.
Applicants must meet the liability insurance requirement by paying for Professional Liability Protection (PLP) and Core Services from the Canadian Nurses Protective Society (CNPS).
Assessment programs are designed to assist individuals in filling application gaps when transferring to or returning to practice. You may have the option to use an assessment program to meet the currency of practice or post-secondary requirements.
Applicants to the CRNA must pass the NCLEX-RN to become a registered nurse in Alberta. Individuals who have already been registered in Canada are not required to provide evidence. The process for writing NP exams varies based on stream of practice.
You may need to verify your registration depending on your application type and current jurisdiction.
As a registrant with the CRNA, you are required to complete required education.
