Our approach, depicted in The CRNA Regulatory Spectrum, focuses on using the right level of regulation to ensure safe, ethical and competent nursing care. The CRNA aims to incorporate situational context and associated factors, increasing appropriate discretion and accountability to regulatory interventions. Low-risk matters are handled in an efficient and expedient manner with a focus on education and improving processes, while high-risk matters are managed using more prescriptive processes.
This non-traditional approach maintains public protection at its core, with recognition that rules and the "letter of the law" can be balanced with transparent, proportionate and reasonable decisions that are intended to support Alberta’s health-care ecosystem.
