The College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) is aware of a new AI scribe service being offered for free by CHI to primary care providers, including registered nurses (RN) and nurse practitioners (NP).
The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta (OIPC) has not yet assessed whether the use of CHI's AI scribe service will comply with the Health Information Act (HIA). Individuals who are interested in using the tool will need to submit a privacy impact assessment to the OIPC for review and comment.
The OIPC has issued general guidance on the procurement of AI tools by small custodians, and they are in the process of creating guidance specific to the use of AI scribe tools and services.
Anyone with questions related to incorporating AI tools into RN or NP practice may reach out to the CRNA's Practice Guidance team.
