National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: Moving Learning into Action

On Sept. 30, the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and affirms that Every Child Matters. We honour the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, their families and their communities.

This day calls on individuals and institutions to confront the truths of Canada’s history, acknowledge Treaty rights and the ongoing impacts of colonialism, and turn learning into sustained, meaningful action.

As Alberta’s nursing regulator, the CRNA protects the public by ensuring registrants provide safe, competent and ethical care. We are committed to helping build a regulatory system in which Indigenous Peoples can expect equitable treatment and the same standard of nursing care, regardless of where they live or receive services.

The CRNA is moving this commitment forward with Indigenous partners by building respectful relationships and reducing barriers within nursing regulation. Our work includes exploring the development of an Indigenous complaints pathway, bringing Indigenous perspectives into regulatory discussions, and offering the option for registrants to take our free course Stronger Together: Learning Through Indigenous Perspectives.

This work extends beyond Sept. 30. The CRNA will continue to listen, learn, strengthen partnerships and pursue practical changes within our regulatory role that support trust, accountability and public protection.
