Review Draft Document Provide Feedback
The Entry-Level Competencies (ELCs) for Nurse Practitioners in Canada are reviewed periodically to reflect evolving population needs, health-care systems and nurse practitioner practice. The revised Entry-Level Competencies for Nurse Practitioners in Canada were informed by an environmental scan, literature review and extensive stakeholder consultation. They were endorsed by the Canadian Council of Registered Nurse Regulators (CCRNR) board on Nov. 7, 2022.
The CCRNR is comprised of representatives from all 12 provincial/territorial jurisdictions who work to promote excellence and collaboration for regulation of registered nurses (RNs) and nurse practitioners (NPs).
The revised draft Entry-Level Competencies for Nurse Practitioners in Canada document is organized thematically in a role-based format. The ELCs are organized into roles unique to NP practice and presented in a three-tiered structure: a role statement accompanied by competencies and indicators.
