Policy and Practice Consultant

Are you the nurse others refer to for guidance on their nursing practice?

The professional practice, standards and regulatory programs (PPSRP) team is looking for an experienced registrant to help direct and guide the nursing profession as a policy and practice consultant. Are you ready to interpret legislation and regulation to develop regulatory policies, evidence-informed consultations and briefs?

What You Will Do

  • Analyze and monitor the health-care environment to identify nursing regulatory policy gaps and areas for improvement and recommend policy development.
  • Design, implement and evaluate methodologies for stakeholder and registrant participation for gathering input and feedback on nursing regulatory policy.
  • Manage the process for developing nursing regulatory policy and draft standards of practice that are presented to the Council for approval, as set out in the Health Professions Act, and other nursing regulatory policy documents.
  • Manage and provide confidential practice consultation to the public, other stakeholders and registrants that support safe, competent, and ethical care that is in alignment with expectations identified in standards of practice.
  • Interpret and apply legislation, regulation, and the CRNA standards, guidelines, and regulatory policy statements and apply the regulatory framework to direct and guide safe, competent and ethical nursing practice.
  • Enhance nursing and interprofessional practice and model leadership skills to positively influence the provision of safe, competent, and ethical nursing care.
  • Participate in a network of practice leaders provincially and nationally to both provide and seek guidance regarding nursing regulatory policy development.
  • Act as a key contact with employers, government representatives, researchers, other regulatory colleges and registrants for advice and consultation on public safety, legal risks, ethical issues, the scope of practice, and evidence-informed practice, as identified in standards of practice.
  • Collaborate with the PPSRP team to identify needs to develop, implement and integrate collaborative strategies to address those needs in the public's best interest.

What You Possess

  • 10 – 14 years of relevant experience, a combination of clinical, administrative, education or research and including policy development and application
  • A masters degree in a health-related field is required.
  • A current registrant of the CRNA that is in good standing or eligible for registration.
  • Knowledge of the current health system environment and issues, current legislation and regulation relevant to nursing and health care.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Skilled in collaborative decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Excellent time management, prioritization and organizational skills with a proven ability to manage competing timelines.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills.
  • Demonstrated performance management skills and ability to lead teams.
  • Knowledge of engagement and participation strategies.
  • Competence with MS Office 365, SharePoint, webinar delivery and virtual meeting software.
  • Ability to inspire a shared vision and motivate others when leading projects and initiatives to achieve a positive outcome.
  • Ability to build sustainable relationships both internally and externally with the organization.

  • A casual employment opportunity that is up to 0.55 FTE beginning June 2023 through to Sept. 30, 2023, with the possibility of an extension.
