Courtesy permits are temporary registration that may be issued to RNs
or NPs that have current registration in good standing with another
Canadian jurisdiction. They are only issued for the following reasons:
Emergency disaster services
Job action causing
disruption of health care services
Volunteer activity (eg.
Guest teaching assignment
activity, when the primary research activity is located in another
province of territory
Submit your application and pay the
non-refundable assessment fee and the courtesy permit fee from your
MyCARNA account. If you leave MyCARNA, you can return to the
application by logging into your account and clicking Apply for

If you have never been registered with CARNA in the
past, contact your local police to obtain a Police
Information Check, and submit it to us as soon as possible.
This must be received by us before your permit to practice in
Alberta can be issued. Please note: we do not accept online criminal
record checks, and the Police Information Check you provide must
be less than six months old. You can submit this in person, or by
email or Canada Post.
Submit copies of two pieces of
government-issued ID (one of these IDs must be a photo ID) to email@example.com or
by fax to 780-443-6582.
Complete the Verification of Registration
form and send it to the jurisdiction from which you are
requesting verification of registration. This form provides
verification from the Canadian jurisdiction where you are currently
(or were most recently) registered, and each jurisdiction
where you were registered in the past five years as an RN or
