The professional conduct process is part of CARNA's mandate, as a self-regulating body, to regulate members and protect the public. Our process begins with a complaint about a registered nurse and may involve an investigation, hearing, sanctions against a member's practice, and follow-up to ensure the member is safe to practice.
Complaints are managed under the Health Professions Act.
Understand what the investigation process is, the steps involved, potential outcomes, why a complaint may be dismissed and what you can do if you don’t agree with the dismissal decision.
Disciplinary summaries appear in CARNA's magazine, Alberta RN and are intended to educate the membership and to reinforce the safe and proper practice of nursing to protect public safety.
