At its upcoming meeting in September, CARNA Provincial Council will decide whether or not to endorse the latest edition of the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses (2017). The 2008 edition was updated to reflect contemporary practice; see CNA's website for details of the changes.
In spring, we asked you for feedback on the updates proposed by CNA to the Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses. We appreciate the input we received from members, employers and stakeholders. CNA reviewed and incorporated feedback from across Canada and has posted an online version of the 2017 edition on its website.
The code of ethics is a foundational document for all registered nurses. It informs other health-care professionals and members of the public about your ethical commitments as an RN, and the responsibilities you accept as being part of a self-regulating profession.
If you have any questions or comments, please speak to a CARNA practice consultant before the September Council meeting.
