CARNA bylaws authorize Council to appoint a regulated member when a vacancy occurs as a result of a lack of candidates for the position as occurred this year in Central region.
Dwayne is an experienced nurse who has worked for over a decade in both urban and rural sites, from the acute care, ICU to Provincial Medical Affairs. He currently works as an operating room nurse where he assists in the development, operations, evaluation and management of the unit and ongoing projects across Alberta. He holds a master of nursing from Charles Sturt University, based in Australia, and a BScN from the University of Saskatchewan.
Since 2007, Dwayne has also served as a Nursing Officer at home and abroad with the Canadian Armed Forces. This experience has refined his skills with dealing with conflicting stakeholder interests to achieve optimal outcomes in highly sensitive situations. Dwayne is also an active member of his local parent/teacher discussion group and a sitting committee member of the Drumheller Housing Authority.
Dwayne ran for Provincial Council in 2016 and had expressed in interest in running in 2017. Dwayne will join three other councillors who will begin three-year terms on Oct. 1, 2017.
