We welcome Alberta Health’s strategy to address the growing need for a collaborative approach to dementia care.
“A provincial dementia strategy is a critical step forward in addressing the impact of dementia on individuals and their families,” says CARNA president Jerry Macdonald. “The frequency of dementia is increasing as our population ages and we need a coordinated approach to the challenges this will create for our health system and services within communities.”

The risk of developing dementia doubles every five years beyond age 65. As the population ages over the next 30 years, the number of Albertans living with dementia is expected to grow to more than 155,000.
