Nomination instructions and process

Who is eligible for an award

  • A currently practising RNs or NPs from any practice setting.
  • A retired or non-practicing member (Lifetime Achievement category only).
  • An individual or group outside the profession (Partner in Health category) that works closely with the nursing community (for example, a licensed practical nurse, physician, community organization or department).

They must not currently be the subject of any proceedings, conditions or consensual agreements related to registration or continuing competence requirements or discipline by the CARNA.

Who is not eligible for an award

Currently practising CARNA staff and provincial councillors are not eligible. Members who are not in good standing are not eligible.

Who can nominate

Only currently practising CARNA members, in good standing, can nominate or support a nomination. If they are already the nominator, they can’t put their name down as a supporter.

Current CARNA staff and provincial councillors can’t nominate, but they can be supporters of the nomination. The review committee only sees who is being nominated and the main nominator.

Individuals outside the profession can be supporting nominators, but the main nominator must be an RN.

How to nominate

You will need to create a profile online through the awards system. Once you create a profile, you will receive a confirmation email with login instructions to begin your nomination.

What’s needed for the nomination

  • Nominee's permission to submit the nomination.
  • Names of people who support the nomination and CARNA registration numbers.
    • Nine other supporters for Partner in Health and Lifetime Achievement
    • Five other supporters for all other awards
  • Specific example of how the nominee meets the criteria.

Helpful tips

While an individual can complete a nomination on their own, we encourage you to share the information needed with the supporters. More eyes on the nomination is always helpful to ensure clear, relevant examples are provided. If you decide on a collaborative approach, copy the information into word and complete together, then copy/paste the information into the nomination system.

Consider nominating more than one person! You can nominate multiple people in the same or different categories, but always make sure you provide examples specific to the criteria questions.

Questions

If you have questions, email carnaawards@nurses.ab.ca or call 1.800.252.9392 ext. 435.
