Registration Renewal

CARNA's practice year runs from October 1 to September 30. Anyone intending to practice in Alberta as an RN, NP or CGN must renew their permit prior to September 30 in order to practice as of October 1. This includes those in clinical practice settings as well as administration, research, education and policy. The deadline for submitting renewal applications is September 1; applications submitted after September 1 will be charged a $50 late fee.

Members and employers are responsible for ensuring individuals have a valid practice permit prior to commencing employment, including orientation. Nurses practicing in Alberta without a CARNA practice permit will not have liability protection under the Canadian Nurses Protective Society.
